Caring for the garden

Robert has been taking pride in the work he has put in to making the garden at 129 Millfield Road a more enjoyable place to spend time. He is enjoying the benefits of seeing the plants he planted bloom and thrive under his constant care and attention, making sure their needs are met and they remain healthy and grow. Robert says that having the responsibility for an area of the shared outdoor space at the care home has given him a sense of purpose and a positive focus for his time. Robert is keen to continue with his gardening duties and intends to develop the area into something really special.

Highbury Theatre Centre

Treading the boards

129 Millfield Road has its fair share of stars, including Mosin who regularly attends a local drama group ‘Street Katz’. Mosin, who can seen here taking part in his weekly drama session at Highbury Theatre Centre, has taken part in previous shows including the group’s production of ‘Letter to Santa’ in 2021 where he played a snowman.

Mosin enjoys drama with peers. He is a bundle of joy, especially when talking about drama, movies, and music. He enjoys stage performance, and you can’t get him to stop when he starts, and always with a big smile on his face. He’s undoubtedly the Shakespeare of Millfield Road!

service users BBQ

Summertime and the living is easy!

The service users of 129 Millfield Road made the most of our recent spell of hot weather by having a weekend barbeque.

The BBQ was epic with everyone chipping in to make it fun. On the menu we had mouth watering and succulent beef burger, tantalizing pork sausages, coleslaw, corn on the cob, potato salad and of course cold drinks to quench the thirst. It was all fun and excitement with lots of chats and memories created

David painting the lounge wall at Millfield Road

Lockdown DIY at Millfield Road

Painting the lounge walls made me feel calm.

– David

Service Users at Millfield Road used the opportunity provided by the first lockdown to redecorate the shared lounge of their home. Like many people in the UK and around the world, the pandemic meant that the residents of Millfield Road spent much more time at home during 2020, a situation that hasn’t changed much in the first quarter of 2021. But rather than sitting on their hands, the individuals who live in our care home decided to pick up a brush and get creative.

Mosin and David were really enthusiastic about painting their home and I feel really proud that they got involved and enjoyed the task, it was really nice to see them work together.

June Rowe – Home Manager

The decision to decorate was the result of a conversation between the service users and the support team regarding what activities they would like to be involved in during lockdown. David and Mosin, two of the residents of Millfield Road, suggested the painting and it was agreed and supervised by June Rowe, the home manager.

Following the initial success, decorating has continued in other areas of the shared spaces and sparked enthusiasm within some residents to get more involved. One resident, David, said that painting the walls of the lounge made him feel calm and he is keen to do more. Another resident, Robert, has warmed to the new décor and now wishes to have his bedroom decorated.
