Rekindling Happy Memories at Black Country Museum

In a heartwarming turn of events, one of our cherished service users, Darren Moore, embarked on a remarkable journey down memory lane. Last week, on the 16th of August 2023, Step Forward Support had the privilege of making Darren’s wish come true as he visited the Black Country Museum in Dudley.

Darren had shared with us that he had visited the museum a long time ago and had cherished memories associated with it. Recognising the importance of fulfilling his longing to revisit a place of significance, our team arranged a special day out for Darren at the very place that held his happy memories.

Located in the heart of Dudley, the Black Country Museum provided the perfect backdrop for this meaningful excursion. As Darren explored the museum’s interactive exhibits, historic buildings, and vibrant demonstrations, his excitement was palpable. This outing not only allowed him to relive cherished moments but also provided an opportunity for him to connect with his past in a way that brought immense joy.

The impact of this event was profound, as it allowed Darren to break free from his routine and enjoy an enriching experience that left a lasting positive impression. His smile and the spark in his eyes as he wandered through the museum were a testament to the power of meaningful activities in enhancing the quality of life for those we support.

From a Care Quality Commission (CQC) perspective, this day out exemplified our commitment to person-centred care and enabling social intervention. By tailoring experiences to each individual’s preferences and past experiences, we fostered a person-centred approach that is at the core of our care philosophy. Additionally, the outing promoted social interaction and engagement, aligning with the CQC domain of enabling social intervention.

Reflecting on the day, Darren shared his thoughts, saying, “I really enjoyed coming back here; it’s better than I remember from last time.” His words echoed the sentiment that this experience had truly made a positive impact on his well-being.

Darren

At Step Forward Support, we believe in creating moments that matter, and Darren’s day out at the Black Country Museum stands as a shining example of our commitment to enhancing the lives of those we support. This heartwarming adventure reminds us all of the significance of creating opportunities for connection, nostalgia, and joy in the lives of the individuals we care for.

In the end, it’s stories like Darren’s that inspire us to continue our mission of providing compassionate care that goes beyond the ordinary, leaving a lasting impact on the lives we touch.

Lindsay’s Journey of Giving Back

Lindsay’s Journey of Giving Back

Lindsay’s story is one of dedication and commitment to her local community. Every week, Lindsay volunteers her time at the local foodbank, helping unpack and shelve goods, serve customers and keeping the foodbank clean and tidy. She looks forward to going to the foodbank every week, as it’s a time for her to give back to her community, and build relationships with members of her local area.

Before Lindsay joined Step Forward Support as a supported living customer, she was struggling with anxiety and depression, and feeling very isolated in her everyday life. However, since joining Step Forward Support, Lindsay has had the opportunity to explore her hobbies and interests, build a strong support network around her, and begin volunteering at the foodbank.

Lindsay has mentioned to staff at Step Forward Support that volunteering at the foodbank has helped her build her confidence, and has given her a sense of purpose. The foodbank has become a place of comfort and support for Lindsay, and she is thrilled to have gained valuable community links where she lives. Volunteering at the foodbank has also helped Lindsay develop a range of skills, such as communication and problem solving, which she will be able to use in her everyday life.
